Fan Works Showcase – The Secret

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on January 7, 2008 by James

As I write this post, it is Monday. And I decided this Monday that I’d I set something up which I do every Monday. This way I keep the blog regular, and I like regular blogs. So from now on every Monday I will showcase some high quality fan art, fiction, or video.

Starting off we have miragecat123’s poem, “The Secret”
The image “http://www.maj.com/gallery/jamit/Simba-Cast/the_secret_poem.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
I chose the above image because I think it captures much of the feel of this poem. Click it to be taken to the poem. If you want a quick review from me, I have posted in the thread you will be taken to.

My Writing Has Begun

Posted in Lion King, fan fiction with tags , , , , on January 5, 2008 by James

Today I put pen to paper for the first time on my Lion King fan fiction. This will be pre-Lion King, documenting how the pride come to be at Pride Rock.

This will not only be a written story, but turned into an audio adventure and maybe, just maybe, a fan film.

The Real Lion King – Lions of the Kalahari

Posted in real lions with tags , , , on January 2, 2008 by James

The Lion King is a fictional story. A fictional story based on what happens in real life to lions in Africa. I don’t know how often lions have epic battles over kingdoms, but I know it does happen. Don’t believe me? Well that’s just fine. Soon you will.

From now on every Wednesday I will be posting a video, article, image, etc. about real lions. I will start with the National Geographic Imax film Lions of the Kalahari:

I had the pleasure of seeing this in the summer of 2005 (before it was 3D) and I will never forget it. One review says just how I feel about it:

“This amazing documentary is presented on the huge Imax screen and feels like a real live Lion King.”

If you ever get the chance to see this, don’t miss it!

The Future Of The Lion King – 3D!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on January 1, 2008 by James

As we start the new year of 2008, let me propose an idea to you. I’m only proposing at this point. My reasons will come later.

I see the future of Lion King being in 3D animation.

Again I won’t give reason for that just yet (but I do have them, plenty of them!). Instead I will leave you with a few images from Kingdom Hearts II:

Lion King LEGO

Posted in Lion King with tags , , , on December 28, 2007 by James

One hobby I love (besides Lion King, of course) is LEGO. So I thought would it not be cool if someone put the two together. So I boldly went were no Lion King fan had DARED to go before and never looked back!

Sadly I didn’t find a whole lot, I guess most LEGO builders aren’t into the Lion King. Oh well, these MOCs (which is a widely used LEGO term standing for My Own Creation) will have to do:

This is a really cool giraffe based on the ones in the musical. You can see more here.

simba.jpg

Well the picture says its Simba, but really this is just the LEGO set, Wild Hunters. Still its a cool set.

That is all the Lion King LEGO I could find. Only one MOC, how sad is that? I will have to change that a little. But until I do, if your into lions in general here are some links you might enjoy:

What Is It That We Love?

Posted in Lion King with tags , , , , , on December 18, 2007 by James

The sun rises and we hear the call, though we don’t understand it.
The king is seized by his brother and thrown to his death.
The son climbs onto the rock, he has returned.

We’ve seen these scenes over and over again. Yet somehow, someway, each time these classic scenes cause shivers to run down our spine.

We love the movies. No, we obsess over the movies (why else would you be reading this). We talk about them on forums; we carry them around on our phones, and have all the music on our mp3 players. We can quote the movie, line by line. Over and over again we watch the films and each time we get laughs, tears (not saying I do! ;) ) and those shivers down our back.

Why? Why do we love these films so much more then the other movies that are out there? I don’t know about you, but I would much rather see Lion King again then any other film of 2007 (even if Harry Potter was a good film, it can’t compare). So what does the Lion King Films have which other movies do not?

Do they have better characters? A better story? More stunning scenes? Is it more moving? More epic? Better music?

The answer to all five of the above questions, no. We may love the Lion King, but it is not a classic story. The music is good, but certainly not mind blowing. Its characters are aimed at young chil-

Ah! I think I have just hit something which is the key to our question here. This may not be the answer to everyone, but for me it certainly is. How old were you when you first saw the film?

5? 10? 15? 20?

My guess is you were in the 5-10 range. You saw this film and your young mind was blown away. Another film I love is Star Wars, and it’s the same story.

Star Wars fans had never seen such amazing battles before they saw Star Wars. The story of good versus evil they were given was not original to Star Wars. Vader wasn’t new; he was a recycled version of something else. But it was new to them, just like the Lion King was new to you and me.

Simba, Scar, Mufasa, and Nala were all new and mind blowing to us. Then a little bit of humour, and a lot of music mixed in made the perfect movie for us. Did you get that, for US.

These films are not for everyone, because only me and you can “feel the love” for these films. We watch them and get this funny feeling. But if you had not seen these films when you were a child, you would not get that feeling. That is why these films can only ever be loved by those who loved them when they were children. I get the sense there will be no adults converting to Lion King fandom.

So, to sum it all up, “What Is It That We Love?” The answer, it’s a piece of our childhood we have made into our teenage/adult life and we love it.

Thanks for reading! Now to think about what to podcast…

Welcome to My Lion King blog!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 18, 2007 by James

Welcome all to my blog. It will be a place for me to provide you with commentary on all things Lion King. Weather it be the original film we all fell in love with, the movie *some* hated, Simba’s Pride, and that other movie, The Lion King 1½. I may even get into the books and the TV show, Timon and Pumba. Did you get all that? Well no, because I still have more I want to do with this blog. So how about a list, we all love lists!

  • A  monthly podcast that will give you (yes, you) a platform to voice your thoughts on the films
  • A Lion King audio drama (ideas for this welcomed!)
  • Thoughts on the music, characters, and everything else we love
  • An in depth and easy to read timeline
  • Ads that you will click to give me money! (oh wait, I’m not supposed to say that…)

So that is the hope and plan for this little site. If you like the idea, let me know. If you don’t, let me know anyways! Expect at least one post per week.
